I am a PhD student at Renmin University of China, based in Beijing. I research journalism and communication in relation to rural areas and development in the Global South.

Outside academia, I enjoy cycling, hiking, and backpacking. I have cycled more than 15,000 kilometers, much of it on multi-day long-distance journeys, and am currently thinking about taking up swimming.

This project examines local journalism across different parts of the world, with attention to the changing relationships among local news organizations, communities, platforms, and wider political and economic environments.

Newspaper activities during the early Vietnamese revolution

This project studies newspaper activities during the early period of the Vietnamese revolution, focusing on the development of the press, its political and social contexts, and its relationship to revolutionary mobilization.

My field research has included rural areas in Jingdezhen, southern Henan, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Beijing, Anhui, and Gansu, China, as well as northern Vietnam.

Methods and materials

My primary approach is qualitative research, drawing on interviews and fieldwork. In response to my research on newspaper activities during the early period of the Vietnamese revolution, I have recently begun exploring historical research and archival analysis. I am also open to learning quantitative methods when collaborating with other researchers. My field research has included rural areas in Jingdezhen, southern Henan, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Beijing, Anhui, and Gansu, China, as well as northern Vietnam.
